For our final session, APS looked at two relevant case studies, Flooding (from the Environmental Agency and an incident with Network Rail.
Joining us are Drystan Salter (Environment Agency) and Lesley Nidd Safety Improvement Officer to discuss prevention tactics and case studies.
About the speaker
Drystan Salter - Environment Agency

Drystan is the Catchment Engineer for West Yorkshire in the FCRM Operations team of the Environment Agency
He currently works on four different work strands,
- Yorkshire Area Principal FCRM Engineer
- Yorkshire Area Bridge Engineer
- Design Authority for Debris and Security Screens
- Driving Contract Co-ordinator
Drystan has worked in the flood defence industry since 2005, and has been involved in a number of Flood Alleviation Schemes and the management of various flood defence assets over the years.
He has been involved in everything from Catchment Flood Management Plans, System Asst Management Plans, project planning and approval, flood alleviation schemes, asset management projects, reservoir maintenance works, bridge engineering schemes, diving works and flood incident management
He has been involved in all the major floods since 2006 in various incident roles, including working with the military, police and Fire and Rescue Service
Lesley Nidd - Safety Improvement Officer

Lesley Nidd is a Health and Safety professional who delivers interesting solutions in her role of Network Rail Wales and Western Region Safety Improvement Specialist.
Her principal focus is on effective safety communication to engage, motivate and often entertain the audience.
Having started her career in the Royal Air Force supporting ground defence, engineering and in orbit testing of a military satellite it was a bit of a leap to find herself working in the rail industry for over 30 years, where she’s gathered a lot of experience and some baggage!
She has a solid background in major projects and construction.
She may have mentioned she’s fond of cruise ship travel and Pizza!
