About session one
Welcome to the APS Spring Conference - Progress and Prevention. This conference we looked at what happens when things go wrong, what we can do to stop them happening again and insight from the experts on what can be done to prevent injury.
During this session we had the APS Presidents’ address by Raymond Bone and a debate between our past, present and future presidents on what can be done to reduce risk, prevent harm and improve safety practices in construction.
About the speakers
Raymond Bone - APS, President

Ray Bone is the APS President. He is a lecturer at Hull University, an experienced trainer and currently leads a multi-disciplinary team working across Europe.
Ray has over twenty-nine years’ practical industry experience backed by sound management skills. He has a track record of conscientious work with APS and other construction sector organisations.
He has served on Council and as a director and has been an enthusiastic regional volunteer committed to making work in construction better and safer.
Ray has worked on projects ranging from site management to leading teams of designers, seeing projects through from design to completion.
Mark Snelling - APS, President Elect

Mark Snelling is a health, safety and fire consultant for the Property Institute, Chair of the Association for Project Safety Policy and Regulation Committee, member of the HSE’s Interim Industry Competence Committee’s Capability & Capacity Workgroup and an Executive of the Building Safety Alliance.
After starting work as a construction project manager, he moved into health and safety and then into fire safety. He is chartered builder (MCIOB), Graduate member of IOSH (Grad IOSH) and Registered Fellow of the Association of Project Safety (RFaPS).
He is technical author of ARMA health and safety and fire safety guidance notes and the Association for Project Safety’s Building Safety Act briefing notes.
Jonathan Moulam - APS, Past President

Jonathan Moulam is the APS Past President. He took over the presidency from Stella Clutton-Saunders in October 2020.
Jonathan is a senior health and safety professional with over 40 years’ construction industry experience gained in both public and private sector organisations.
He has worked for a number of client organisations taking on senior management and consultancy roles.
He is an experienced consultant and director of Moulam Pragmatics Ltd. Jonathan understands the complexities and challenges the CDM Regulations 2015 created for the industry and now assists APS members with technical advice on CDM issues.
He previously chaired the association’s governance committee.
