The Association for Project Safety’s Spring Conference hosted a Risk Panel, based around four of the top safety risks, as defined by RIDDOR. APS proudly presents input from industry, charity, and campaign experts on these topics, as hosted by APS CEO Lesley McLeod.

About the speakers

Christian Harris - Slip Safety Services

Christian Harris is a Slipologist – bringing proven science to the problem of slip accidents. The founder of Slip Safety Services, he is on a mission to prevent 500,000+ slip incidents annually across the globe. 

Slips are often overlooked, misunderstood or simply deemed inevitable, so Christian focusses on explaining that slips are serious, scientific and stoppable. Christian is also the host of the Safety and Risk Success Podcast.

Kate Cairns - Cairns Consultancy

Kate is a multi-award-winning agent of change, Chartered Civil Engineer, Chartered Environmentalist, and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). 

Kate is a ‘constructive disruptor’, consultant, trainer, and professional speaker. For three decades she has driven transformational culture change in sustainable, safe and inclusive construction, engineering, and logistics. Her ability to inspire and collaborate with an enormous range of (sometimes reluctant) stakeholders has resulted in changes to legislation, policy and standards at local, national and European level. She has led the instigation and evolution of two ‘world-first’ industry standards; in safety around vehicles (CLOCS), and sustainability (CEEQUAL).

Kate has a portfolio career, influencing as a politician in the role of County Councillor; in academia as Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at Durham University (Embedding Sustainability and Inclusion into Engineering); and through her professional body as ICE Council Member and Chair of the Fairness Inclusion & Respect Committee. 

She has served as trustee of RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims. 

Kate has featured on national TV, radio, broadsheets, and in trade press and podcasts.

Kate will talk about the risk around our industry vehicles, the inception and evolution of CLOCS, and how each of us can play our part to ensure best practice.

Hannah Williams - No Falls Foundation

Hannah Williams began her career in the work at height sector at Lyte Ladders and Towers in 2006. 

In 2009 Hannah was appointed to the board of directors serving in various positions until 2018. 

During her time at Lyte Hannah took a keen interest in improving height safety and sat on the governing bodies of both the Ladder Association and PASMA, including the Ladder Association’s Technical Committee. 

Her work experience embraces marketing, public relations, product development and product sourcing and Hannah is delighted to be continuing her interest in height safety by serving as manager of the No Falls Foundation.

Benedikt Perkuhn -  Hilti

Benedikt Perkuhn is the Health & Safety Product Manager for Hilti GB and Northern Europe.

In his current role he owns a product portfolio focussed on H&S in construction. This includes tools for dust reduction at source and secondary solutions as air cleaners. He’s responsible for the marketing of Hilti’s hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) offering and ergonomic working related products including exoskeletons. He has been involved in various projects to promote safe working conditions across the construction industry.

A Master of Science (M.Sc), Marketing Research graduate from Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, Benedikt has held various international roles across UK, Germany and Liechtenstein with Hilti and Siemens.
