Charles Shorland has been a practicing architect for over forty years, with thirty-five years of experience running a practice as partner and senior partner. He is a ‘hands on’ designer and presenter: managing projects across a wide spectrum of housing, education, healthcare, sports, and commercial sectors.

He has strong leadership skills and is passionate that good communication promotes good design and therefore good architecture. He has won national and regional awards for sustainable architecture in the education sector.

As an Incorporated Member of the Association for Project Safety he acts as Bowker Sadler's in-house Principal Designer on CDM 2015 Regulations and he has taken a leading role in discussions on the Building Safety Act now in force.

He is registered by the APS as a Principal Designer under the Building Regulations for both general and Higher Risk Buildings.
He has experience in preparing Pre Construction Information, reviewing Principal Contractors’ construction phase plans, issuing the HSE F10 Notice. As PD-CDM and PD-BR he makes periodic site visits to review site setups and progress, and monitors changes to submitted and approved designs to Building Control - as either Notifiable or Recordable. He has experience in closing out projects: issuing the H&S File and delivery Notification 3 to Building Control.

Charles Shorland RIBA IMaPS attends APS and BSI webinars and disseminates H&S information to the practice, updates our e-library on safety legislation, and holds regular in-house H&S seminars.
