APS Spring Conference - Progress and Prevention
No one likes to talk about their mistakes – and the construction industry is no different. Sometimes there are good reasons: people fear legal consequences and costs; they worry about how an admission will affect the reputation and standing of their business; they may even just want to avoid looking foolish in front of their peers.
But everyone knows we all learn more from the things we did wrong than when everything is plain sailing or from hours hitting the books. APS believes there is always an opportunity to learn and make things better. Prevention of harm is paramount to our mission, and everyone can get something out of those unfortunate moments where prevention just wasn’t enough.
This year’s APS spring conference - Wednesday 10 May 2023 – will take a positive and focused look at the lessons we can all learn when things go wrong. Our one-day online event will consider what our mistakes teach us, how we can improve and how to prevent problems happening in future.
During the day, you can expect discussions on the law and liability; failure reporting; and insightful illustrations from sectors that have learned and bounced back from disasters. There will also be a special session on top tips for the most common everyday risks in constructions - slips and trips, safety around vehicles and working at height and with dust.
There will be speakers from: the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists [CIAT]; top lawyers, Mischon de Reya; the Institute of Civil Protection & Emergency Management; Cairns Consultancy on Safety around Vehicles; the No falls foundation; and special guests from Network Rail and the FCRM Operations to name a few.
