Callum Bunce
(NMRG )
I began working in private Architure in 1988 as an office assistant while training to become an Architectural Technologist. Over the subsequent years I developed experience in most sectors of the built environment including an interest in health and safety in design and construction.
I gained a NEBOSH General Certificate in 2006, followed by membership of IOSH in 2008 and APS membership in 2010, election to APS Scotland West Committee in 2014 and Chairperson in 2019. My work experiences allowed me to work in a triple role split between running projects as a Technologist, working as a CDM-C and as H&S Manager. In July 2021 I took the decision to move to a full time Principal Designer role within a multi-disciplinary practice in the private sector. Over these years I have developed my knowledge and skill set to benefit my current role as a Principal Designer.
As a Principal Designer and with my technical background, I am enthusiastic in my approach to the requirements of the role of the PD, including communication and co-ordination required in bringing a project to life while keeping an eye on the H&S aspects of the design and construction. As a Regional Representative for Scotland I would hope to be able to bring the same enthusiasm and commitment to the role. I am keen to re-engage with the Scottish Membership and assist in building an increased interest in APS activities, particularly given the current developments of the Building Safety Act in England and how that might be applied in Scotland.

Originally a business studies graduate I have an MBA and a Dip Marketing being a former CIM chartered Fellow. I moved from manufacturing General Management to construction in 1996.
A full-time employee of Potter Raper Ltd. since 2004, I am an Associate Director and Senior CDM Principal Designer. Based in London, I liaise with colleagues in our Brighton, Beckenham, Colchester and Cambridge offices. A multi-disciplinary consultancy, regulated by RICS, we manage residential and commercial new build and refurbishment projects across the sectors.
The former Vice Chair of the now restructured London Committee, I served on the APS Client Advisor Group. I believe that a key APS strength is our membership diversity and that our committees should reflect this. I believe that our training should develop those who can fulfil the requirements of the Regulations and the competencies explicit in the job description. I offer 20 year’s experience in the CDM process across diverse projects and roles and have business acumen and qualifications combined with a strong knowledge of design and construction safety.
An Interiors Specialist Operations Director, a Director of a Client organisation, a PD with an Architect and then designer organisation who manages the pre-construction safety process.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management, a MSc in Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management and a Master’s Degree from Cambridge University in Interdisciplinary Design in the Built Environment. Becoming CMaPS in 2016 I am a chartered MCABE, MCIOB and CMIOSH and member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
