The APS Energy Week: Net Zero v Passivhaus

About the Event

As we move towards the countries net zero targets there are various different energy standards for buildings which are being promoted to reduce the energy usage and carbon emissions of new build housing.

Net Zero and Passivhaus are two of the most prevalent of these standards which propose different routes to lowering carbon emissions, one being an energy standard and the other an emissions standard.

This webinar will explore the differences between the two and the health and safety implications they present.

About the speaker

Michael C Jarvis - MAST Architects

Michael is a chartered architect and Fellow of the RIAS.

He is an industry leader and has sat on a number of technical, energy and housing steering groups over the years.

A Past President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects, Michael continues to be actively involved with RIAS, sitting on various committees, and fulfilling his role as Head of Certification for Energy and more recently as RIAS’ BIM Champion.

Since joining MAST Architects in 1995, Michael has always strived to be at the cutting edge of sustainable and energy efficient housing, from the early years of closed panel timber kit systems through to large scale offsite manufacture of housing, also designing and building his own house with his wife which was close to both Passivhaus and Zero Carbon Standards.

Morgan Stephen - MAST Architects

Morgan is a chartered architect and Certified Passivhaus Designer. Over the last ten years Morgan has worked within the residential sector primarily on social housing projects across the central belt and North East of Scotland. Since joining MAST in 2019 she has taken on the role of leading the offices sustainability group, who are continually carrying out research and training to raise awareness, share knowledge and demystify sustainability with the wider team, clients and fellow consultants. Since obtaining her passivhaus certification in 2020 Morgan has been involved in a number of low energy, net zero and Passivhaus projects.
