Linesearch BeforeUdig - Avoidance of utility strikes
Linesearch BeforeUdig (LSBUD) is a free to use service that any individual can use to check their works against over 90 asset owners’ utility assets.
These assets include hundreds of thousands of kilometres of underground and overhead pipes and cables in the electricity, gas, high pressure fuel, water and fibre optic networks.
The service processes over 3 million enquiries per annum- that’s more than one every 10 seconds.
The first part of the presentation will cover:
An overview of the LSBUD service from a user’s perspective, covering the following:
- What LSBUD is and why it exists
- The benefits of using the service
- Who can use it
- A high level summary of how to use it
- The asset owners whose networks are protected, together with what they might receive from the service
In the second part of the presentation will cover The Utility Strike Avoidance Group (USAG). This is a collaborative group of over 400 utility asset owners, industry groups and contractors that seek to ensure the highest standards of safety and best practice when carrying out work on the vital services for our homes and businesses. In particular it will help those carrying out work avoid disrupting supplies through accidental strikes on utilities in the ground.
It will cover:
- An overview of the organisation
- How people can support it
- The resources available
- The annual strike report, together with high level conclusions
