About the Event 

The session will cover aspects of how Network Rail Capital Delivery projects fulfil Network Rails Safety Vision. 

The presentation will illustrate wider industry learning on preventing adverse events and how NR assures against such events occurring. 

Some project specific lessons learnt and good practice will be shown. It will conclude with key measures to facilitate how error free design and execution helps fulfil the Safety Vision.

Steve Williams. TA Buildings and Civils Principal Discipline Expert (Capital Delivery)

A Fellow of both the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers, Steve has played a pivotal role in the design, execution and assurance of numerous projects for over 34 years in various sectors of the construction industry. 

His specialisms include the structural engineering of building and civil engineering structures and the management of temporary works interfaces to ensure efficient design and construction, primarily in the railway sector. He currently sits on the joint IStructE/ICE sponsored Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures (CROSS-UK) Panel and the Design Practice Risk and Structural Safety Committee Panel for the IStructE. 

He also contributes to Temporary Works Forum (TWf), Get It Right Initiative (GIRI) activities and sits on the HSE BIM4H&S panel. He also leads the Health & Safety by Design Buildings and Civils Working Group within NR. He has published papers in the ICE proceedings and The Structural Engineer. 

All these activities are to promote the dissemination of Lessons Learnt and Good Practice for the benefit of the wider B&C community within NR and its supply chain, to reduce error and improve safety.
