Description of event

1st Line Defence are the UK’s market leaders in UXO risk mitigation services, providing consultancy, risk assessments and on-site support to projects across the UK and Overseas. They will provide an introduction to the industry, explaining why UXO should be considered and what can be done to both assess the risk and mitigate against it.

The presentation will cover:

  • Background to UXO Threat in UK – WWI and WWII Bombing – British and Allied Military Activity
  • Case studies of recent UXO finds
  • Risk Assessment Procedure – Express Preliminary UXO Risk Assessments – Detailed UXO Risk Assessments
  • Risk Mitigation Services – Non-Intrusive UXO Survey – Intrusive UXO Survey – UXO Specialist On-site Support
  • Risk Mitigation Case Studies Various inert examples of different types of munitions will be available to study and handle to raise awareness of the different types, sizes and shapes of UXO which could potentially be encountered.

About the speaker

The session will be presented by Mark Watson, Senior Technical Manager, 1st Line Defence. 

Mark has a strong military background having served 15 years with the British Army and 3 years with the Australian Defence Force. 

Since leaving the forces he has been involved with commercial Unexploded Ordnance Mitigation for the last 11 years. 

During this period he has lead Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response and Battle Area Clearance teams within Lebanon and worked on a variety of European Marine UXO surveys along with many other UK projects. 

Mark has been with 1st Line Defence since its foundation.
