Have your say on the future of professions

The UK Government has issued a Call for Evidence on the Professions Strategy, a key step in developing a new built environment workforce strategy due in Spring 2027.

This is a major opportunity for APS members to influence how Government understands and supports:

• The role of the Principal Designer (CDM and Building Regulations) and the Client Advisor
• Competence and capability across the full building lifecycle
• The real challenges impacting delivery, safety, and outcomes in practice

Following discussions at our recent Special Fellows Forum, it is clear there are important issues to raise around:

• Competence and professional standards
• Client expectations
• The effectiveness of current regulatory approaches and what Government could do better to incentivise competence

We want to ensure these are clearly represented in APS’s response, which will be finalised with the help of our Fellows.

We are inviting members to share their thoughts on the call for evidence and its questions:

• Your experience of your role – whether the PD role under CDM, PD Building Regulations or Client Advisor
• Challenges you face in delivering your responsibilities
• Views on how Government can improve skills, competence and outcomes
