About the Event 

Birmingham Airport has a very diverse and complex infrastructure with buildings located both airside and landside. Additionally, the airport has many different users including passengers, contractors, tenants and concessions.

In this session the presenters will discuss some of the unique challenges of Managing Construction work within a busy Airport environment, both landside and airside, and the precautions that are taken to manage the risk.

Gary Giles, Health and Safety Manager at Birmingham Airport

Gary has worked at Birmingham Airport since 2015. He is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the ISO 45001 Safety Management System.

He works closely with the development team assisting with project safety and providing CDM advise, support and training.

Simon Toesland, Head of Health, Safety and Fire at Birmingham Airport

Simon Toseland is an APS Fellow and, before joining the Board in 2020, chaired the East Anglia committee where he used his network of industry contacts to run well-attended events and secure engaging speakers.

Simon has over fourteen years high-level health and safety experience gained in wide ranging schemes and sectors. He has held director roles at Salisbury and Norse and is currently head of health, safety and fire at Birmingham Airport.

Simon was awarded CDM coordinator of the year in 2014 for work on a refit for Land Securities. He also presents on his work with the British Museum.
