Kate Flory, Inspirational leadership coach with Kapow Coaching discusses how as a manager, leader and even parent we often believe it is our role to solve problems, find solutions, guide and inform those around us.  This invariably means we ‘tell’ people what to do rather than ‘ask’ them – how would they do it, or what their ideas are? We may know that delegation, empowering others and seeking out opportunities for them to learn is not only good for the person. but also benefits us and the organisation, so why don’t we do it? 

One answer, is that we don’t know how to have Supportive Conversations – how to move from ‘tell to ask’, and what conversational tools there are which will help us to stop giving advice, really listen to the person and guide them to find their own answers and solutions.
