Spring CPD- Reducing Harms Caused by Dusts (June)

This CPD session will take a broad look at occupational diseases in the construction industry related to different types of dusts.  Having explored the wide range of dusts that can have adverse effects on people and how the effects might be different if the substances present in different forms, the seminar will touch on the other effects that dusts might have for example the creation of explosive atmospheres and causing environmental harms.  

The session will address the how the legal framework is structured and the application of the general principles of prevention will be used as a framework for exploring controls and the important role that others, like occupational hygienists and technology like real time monitoring can play in supporting the reduction of harms.  Whilst designers’ responsibilities are to eliminate/reduce the key role that respiratory protective equipment has to play will also be discussed.  

The speaker will conclude by looking at some of the macro drivers that will be placing greater pressure on the industry
