Introduction 

There are many things that impact our mental health including our physical health, our social situation, our living environment and/or genetic factors and this makes us all at risk of developing a mental health problem at any time during our lives. The primary objective of the Mental Health Awareness workshop is to mitigate the risk of people becoming mental un-well and to provide the confidence and skills to support colleagues, friends and family who may be suffering with poor mental health.

Aims

This course aims to raise awareness and equip individuals with the knowledge of mental health issues and how it may affect themselves as well as other. Employers have a duty of care to look after the wellbeing of employees and this course will teach delegates an understanding of what mental health is, a basic knowledge of some of the common causes of mental ill health and how to cope with certain issues. Time is spent providing delegates with the confidence to deal with mental ill health and where to sign post people who may need further support. Additionally, delegates focus on the New Economics Foundation five steps to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Training objectives 

  • Gain and understanding of what Mental Health is and who it affects
  • Have an understanding of why we should be concerned about our Mental Health and that of others
  • Understand the causes of mental health problems both in work and out
  • Recognise why people do not like to talk about mental health
  • Gain knowledge around the complexity of common Mental Health conditions with particular focus on anxiety and mood disorders
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms when supporting people
  • Be confident in being able to start the conversation to support people who may be experiencing mental ill health
  • Increase wellbeing and mental health by understanding and adopting the five steps to wellbeing
