Design risk management
Date: Monday 20 February 2023
This was an on-line event.
Topic: Design Risk Management
About the Event
Design Risk Management (DRM) is a term being more frequently used and its practical implementation often a conundrum to designers.
There are publications addressing DRM – some are lengthy reads, some involving a bureaucratic approach. Is there a singular approach to DRM and should the implementation of DRM be complex? The presenter believes the answer to both these questions is ‘no’ and ‘not necessarily’, respectively.
The presenter has set out a concept for DRM that is applicable to all designers; and hopes that through this presentation designers can assess how they address DRM throughout their design process, identify aspects for improvement and have the confidence to set-out their approach to DRM when challenged.
Having a proactive approach to DRM is also a fundamental requirement as construction projects adopt evolving digital applications and ever more mandated digital information sharing (BIM).
The concept being presented supports the CDM duties of a designer and can also be adapted to support the role and duties of the Principal Designer.
