‘Organisational Capability’ explained, expectations on dutyholders and individuals’ Competence (Half Day)
Managing Competence. Both CDM and Building Regulations explicitly require ‘Organisational Capability’ – Guidance on what this means has recently been issued by ICC and Industry.
Revisions to the Building Regulations in response to the Grenfell tragedy, have introduced a statutory duty, with criminal liability, for organisations involved in the design and undertaking of building works, to be competent, and to be able to demonstrate this.
This course will explain the statutory duties under both CDM and the Building Regulations and how to manage competence in line with the ICC’s Principals and the Industry guidance.
This course will be delivered by Mark Snelling and Anthony Taylor, both of whom are members of the Industry Task & Finish Group who developed the guidance, Anthony is also a member of the ICC.
Clients, and other employers, including Principal Designers and Principal Contractors will need to understand how they will be expected to assess the competence of those they seek to deploy on Projects, as well as the consideration of how their own organisations will be judged by others, including the Regulator.
- The course will explain:
- The new requirements within Part 2A of the Building Regulations 2010 for organisations to have and provide evidence of their 'Organisational Capability';
- The duties under CDM in relation to the duty to manage competence,
- The ICC’s 15 Principals
- Applying the Industry guidance for managing competence, The links between competence of individuals and how this should be managed within organisations, including those they may sub-contract.
- How you may use the guidance either as part of an existing BS/ISO standard you may be certificated to, or as a stand-alone process for providing the evidence you will need.
The course will explore the core principals including how organisations who do not wish to be accredited against the full standard can create a system that is appropriate for the size and complexity of their business.
Both guidance documents are intended for organisations of all size and complexity, including micro businesses, who need to manage competence in their organisations.
The course will be run as a half-day course, some in the morning (09.30 - 12.30) some in the afternoon (13.30 -16.30) to provide maximum convenience to potential attendees.
