Sustainability isn’t just a future goal for APS; it’s a present-day responsibility. As part of its environmental strategy, APS plants a tree for every new member, turning organisational growth into a tangible, positive environmental impact.

This initiative forms part of APS’s broader commitment to responsible business practices and is supported by its ISO 14001 Environmental Management System accreditation. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management, demonstrating that the association systematically manages its environmental impact, embeds sustainability into daily operations.

Turning Membership Growth into Environmental Impact

For every new APS member, a tree is planted at Bradford Farm in Devon through the Gift a Tree programme. These plantings support rewilding, carbon capture, and the creation of vital wildlife habitats, helping transform the estate into a thriving nature reserve.

A Growing Woodland with Measurable Benefits

As of January 2026, APS has funded the planting of over 370 trees, including Alder, Willow, Wild Cherry, and Oak. Each tree absorbs an estimated 20–25 kg of CO₂ per year, meaning the woodland currently captures around 6.5–8 tonnes of carbon annually. As the trees mature, their carbon storage and ecological benefits will continue to grow.

Beyond Carbon: Restoring Natural Ecosystems

The woodland also improves soil stability, reduces flood risk, and contributes to cleaner air and healthier ecosystems. Rewilding efforts at Bradford Farm are already producing visible results: otters and water voles have returned, over 80 bird species have been recorded, including rare sightings of wild storks and terrapins have been discovered in the estate’s lake. What was once quiet farmland is quickly becoming a vibrant wildlife sanctuary.
