Meet the judges: APS National Awards
Gary Mees – President, CIAT
Gary has worked in the built environment for 40 years on a diverse range of projects. His experience working with a number of architectural practices progressed up to associate level within an established Edinburgh and Glasgow architectural practice. In 2001, Gary formed a Chartered Architectural Technologist Practice, gmat. He is a Chartered Architectural Technologist, IMaPS, an Approved Certifier of Design (Energy), President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and a member of the CIC Health & Safety Committee.
Stefan Mordue – NBS
Stefan Mordue is a chartered architect, construction project manager, writer and NBS consultant. He is co-author of a number of publications, including ‘BIM for Construction Health & Safety’ and ‘BIM for Dummies’ and was part of the team that delivered a joint project for NBS and UK BIM Task Group to produce a BIM toolkit in preparation for the government’s BIM mandate. Stefan is a visiting lecturer at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, and he sits on a number of industry and technical standard committees, including the British Standards Institute Occupational Health & Safety Management and the Architects Council of Europe BIM working group. He was a founding member of the CIC BIM2050 working group.
Alex Lubbock - Carillion
Alex heads up the development and change management programme for Building Information Modelling across the Carillion UK business. Currently responsible for implementation of BIM in Carillion across the full spectrum of the businesses capability including finance, design, build, own, operate/maintain and transfer activities. Alex has been a construction professional for 9 years coming from a project management /commercial background, working in pre-contract and operational phases at both main and sub-contractor levels. Alex has also worked in Civil Engineering, Rail, Residential, Education and Local Government Services sectors.
Clive Johnson - Group Head of Health and Safety at Land Securities
Clive Johnson Group Head of Health Safety and Security is Chairman of the Construction Clients Group, represents clients CCG on CONIAC and is Chair of the Health in Construction Leadership Group. Clive is also a IIRSM Council Member.
Margaret Sackey - Senior Health and Safety Manager and Construction at Transport for London
The Construction Health, Safety & Tunnel Safety Team at Transport for London. Chartered Civil Engineer, Member of ICE Health and Safety Expert Panel and ICE H&S Register (Advanced), Chartered Safety Practitioner, Honorary Fellow of Association for Project Safety. Over 29 years’ experience in civil engineering, construction, design, project management, and the provision of construction health and safety advice and assistance in both the public and private sector.
Murray Thomson is a multi-award winning architect who, as a former Director of the APS, introduced the successful Student Designers Awards and National Awards initiatives. He has published papers on subjects as diverse as safeguarding of airports and sick building syndrome. Murray is a Principal Designer and CDM Advisor at AHR Architects and has a varied portfolio of projects including defence projects, coastal flood defences, new build housing, public realm works and regeneration of residential communities.
Bobby Chakravarthy - APS President
Bobby Chakravarthy is a Designer, Partner and Head of Architecture at Arcus Consulting, a multidisciplinary design and construction services practice with six offices throughout the UK. He has 14 years’ experience working as a Planning Supervisor, CDMC and now as a Principal Designer in a wide variety of sectors, but specialising principally in public sector and large scale residential property. He represents APS on CIC BIM 2050 Core Group and HSE BIM 4 Health & Safety Task Group.
John Nielsen - APS Director
John Nielsen, is the co-owner of CK21 Ltd in Newcastle, a multi-disciplined consultancy with services in civil/structural engineering, BREEAM, project management and H&S. He is a chartered civil engineer and environmentalist and is also on the boards of CIC, University of Northumbria Civil Engineering degree and Constructing Excellence North East.
David Ashworth - APS Director
David Ashworth is a Chartered Technologist and CDM Consultant. An associate with the Halsall Lloyd Partnership in Lancashire, he has been a member of APS since December 1995, and has served as Regional Chair of the NW England Region for the past five years.
