In this workshop style event, Andrew Leslie, Senior CDM Adviser at the Centre for Maritime and Industrial Safety Technology (C-MIST), will aim to demystify Design Risk Management and will take delegates through:
- What the Regulations require of designers
- What design risk management is all about
- How to identify significant risk
- How to record and communicate risk information and,
- Examples of good practice
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
About the speaker
Andrew Leslie, Senior CDM Adviser at the Centre for Maritime and Industrial Safety Technology (C-MIST), trained as an architect and built up considerable experience in the residential, further education and industrial sectors, and knowledge of contracts and regulations. While in architectural practice he took an interest in the CDM regulations and began working on CDM projects in 1996. He joined the Health and Safety consultants C-MIST in 2004 and headed the Construction Division delivering CDM and construction health and safety services to a wide range of clients.
From 2006-2009 Andrew was Director of Practice at The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), and during that period promoted CDM to designers, and worked closely with HSE. Andrew worked as a CDM consultant from 2009-2014, and was CDM Adviser on the V+A Dundee. He joined APS in December 2014 as Technical and Standards Manager and was involved in APS’ strategy for CDM 2015. He provided technical input to APS publications; is co-author of the APS Principal Designer’s Handbook; author of articles in various construction industry publications; was an APS accredited course assessor and auditor; and wrote and delivered CPD on CDM2015 to APS members and other organisations. Andrew is currently commissioned to co-author the APS Design Risk Management Book and lectures regularly on CDM 2015 and Design Risk Management. Andrew re-joined C-MIST in 2016 and has been involved in major developments in London.
