Exciting times at APS
We’ve had a brilliant morning here at the Association for Project Safety, as at 12pm today, we announced the shortlist in our annual National CDM and Student Designer Awards.
We’re so pleased to tell you that, having enjoyed a record number of submissions into the competition this year, a total of 20 entries have now made the final stage of the contest across nine different categories and the lucky winners to be revealed at a glittering gala dinner in London on Thursday 19 October 2017 (put the date in your diary now!).
If you’d like to see which companies, consultancies and their clients have made the shortlist, you can view it here.
Now in its 10th year, the awards celebrate inspirational good practice in the Construction Health and Safety sector and are a benchmark of excellence aimed at highlighting how good design and health and safety practices can help reduce deaths, injury and ill-health, both physical and mental.
We want the awards demonstrate to the world that APS Members are amongst the most highly skilled professionals in Construction Health and Safety. We know that you work extremely hard in your respective fields, are driving change and pushing up standards in the industry, so that construction workers can return home happily and healthily to their families each day. The National CDM and Student Designer Awards is an opportunity to celebrate this achievement.
We know you’re delivering stand-out work because we’ve been delighted not only by the quantity of entries into this year’s awards but by the quality of the submissions too – it’s been a real pleasure reading each and every one of them. So much so, the judges have needed extra time to deliberate and decide on each of the category winners, meaning our
shortlist announcement is a little later than originally planned – it’s been a good problem to have!
We asked our CEO, Lesley McLeod, for her thoughts and here’s what she had to say:
“I’d like to extend my congratulations to all of the shortlisted entries. Making it this far in the competition is a tremendous achievement having impressed our judges during the rigorous marking process; just because you enter doesn’t automatically guarantee you a spot on the shortlist. To see your name on the shortlist announcement means your delivering work at the very highest of standards in Construction Health and Safety, living and breathing the values of APS through your professionalism and truly are amongst the best of the best. All that remains is for me to wish all of the shortlisted entries the very best of luck as we enter the final stage of the competition and I look forward to celebrating your achievements with you all on the night.”
With the formalities of the judging process now complete, the next stage in the competition is to look forward to the day of the awards ceremony. It will start with all shortlisted entries being invited to attend an exclusive event at the House of Commons on the afternoon of Thursday 19 October, giving them the chance to network with policymakers and those who influence rules and regulations at a national level around Construction Health and Safety – it’s a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Following the reception, the 10th National CDM and Student Designer Awards will then take place at Gibson Hall on the same date from 7pm.
During the gala dinner, guests will be treated to an evening of fine food and fabulous entertainment hosted by architect and TV presenter Piers Taylor, who will oversee the proceedings and announce the lucky category award winners from the shortlisted entries on the night.
The evening is always one to remember and is a real celebration of our Members’ achievements – with it being the National CDM Awards’ 10th birthday this year too, it’s even more cause for celebration and we guarantee the night will be bigger and better than ever before – you do not want to miss out!
