With just over two weeks away to our 10th annual National CDM Awards, we are stepping up our activities at APS HQ to ensure this year is our best yet. Part of the preparation is collaborating with our stakeholders and other key partners, to ensure the scheme is a huge success through different sponsorship packages.
We caught up with Richard Wilks, Director of Health and Safety at Bell Group and former APS President, to find out why – as a first-time headline sponsor – Bell Group decided to get involved in the APS National CDM awards and why, in addition, Bell Safety Services part of the Bell Group decided to sponsor the Principal Designer category.
What enticed Bell Safety Group to come on board as a headline sponsor?
As former APS president, I know first-hand how important the APS National CDM Awards are for the design and construction health and safety risk management industry. By becoming a sponsor of the APS awards, Bell Group can show to clients, colleagues and industry peers alike, that our mission is to ensure the highest level of professional practice, so that construction workers can return home happily and healthily to their families each day. We want to ensure Bell Group is aligning ourselves with APS’s strong organisational values. It is also a great opportunity for our business to raise our profile within the industry while meeting new people and building our professional network.
In addition, Bell Safety Services (part of the Bell Group) decided to sponsor the Principal Designer category, why?
Bell Safety Services is a leading consultancy forming part of the larger Bell Group. We understand that meeting the responsibilities of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 and applying the highest Health and Safety standards can be daunting for many businesses, including the appointment of a Principal Designer with the relevant Skills, Knowledge and Experience. Our highly qualified consultants have provided support services for over 20 years, building a nationwide reputation for the quality of our advice. We work with companies to ensure they have an appropriate Principal Designer for each construction project as well as providing advice to public and private sector clients, developers and principal contractors across the UK, helping to ensure that projects are safe and successful. We believe that by sponsoring the Principal Designer Category, we are highlighting to the construction industry the importance of this crucial function.
What's your experience been like working with the team at APS to secure the sponsorship?
The lovely Laura (our Head of Events) has managed the whole process. We have found it to be relatively straightforward and we encourage anyone still looking to sponsor a category, to get in touch!
So you are a Former President of APS, tell us a bit about your experience of attending the National CDM and Student Designer Awards in the past?
Each and every year, it gets bigger and better. Last year I remember sitting with BBC presenter Louise Minchin and being captivated by some great tricks from the Magic Chicks. We are hoping that this year, in Gibson Hall, the 10th anniversary of the National CDM Awards will be the best yet and that is why we simply couldn’t resist coming on board as headline sponsors for the event.
Why do you think other people should sponsor the awards?
It’s a great opportunity to align your business with APS’s organisational values - highlighting how good design and health and safety practices can help reduce deaths, injury and ill-health, both physical and mental.
There are still a couple of sponsorship opportunities available and we’d love to talk to you a little more about how we can work together, like Bell Group.
