10th annual National CDM and Student Designer Awards open for entries

02/03/2017 - 09:11AM

It’s a big day for us here at the Association for Project Safety. We’re delighted share the news that, today, we’re launching our 10th annual National CDM and Student Designer Awards, and we’re calling for your entries. Since it’s a special anniversary – it’s gearing up to be our best yet!

If you’re unfamiliar with our awards, it’s about celebrating inspirational good practice in the Construction Health and Safety sector, as well as providing others with a benchmark of excellence to work towards, using your examples of exceptional work over the past year as a beacon of professionalism and helping to push up standards in the industry.

We’re asking you to put your best work forward for consideration, to be in with a chance of being named an esteemed category award winner – it’s an amazing accolade not to be missed. There are nine different categories to enter, and as well as seeing submissions from our Members, the awards are also open to non-members too.

The National Student Designer Awards also take place at the same time as the CDM Awards and is open to university students studying for degrees in a construction related discipline, providing them with the opportunity to network with people like you – professionals already making a difference by contributing to and helping shape the industry.

The awards are most definitely the highlight of our calendar year we treat this flagship occasion with the prestige it deserves.  We know the challenges facing the industry and understand your jobs can be tough - it’s not an easy task to operate at the very highest level of Construction Health and Safety so we make sure that the awards evening embodies everything a celebration should be – a fantastic venue, amazing guests, some fab food, all washed down with a glass of fizz.

It’s about coming together and demonstrating to the nation that there are some highly skilled Construction Health and Safety workers among us working hard, and collaborating with others each day, so workers can return home to their families. Take a minute to reflect on the work you are doing – you’re helping to reduce fatal accidents, illnesses and instances of long term suffering, both physical and mental – we need to shout about this!

You have to be the very best to beat the competition and so we’re calling for you to enter the awards and share with others your exceptional work.  We’re looking forward to reading all of the entries and welcoming all of those shortlisted to the awards evening, as making it that far in the competition is an achievement in itself, and most definitely a milestone worth celebrating regardless of whether you win or lose.

Entries now open

Entries are open now with the submission deadline set for Tuesday 6th June at midnight.  Following the deadline date, entries will be put before an esteemed panel of judges, all with an impressive track-record in the Construction Health and Safety sector and who are champions of inspirational good practice, to decide each category winner.  The shortlisted entries will then be announced on Friday 14th July with tickets to the awards evening also available to purchase on this date.  Later, the awards ceremony will take place on 19th October at Gibson Hall, London, with the evening promising to be bigger and better than ever before.

Our awards evening is known across the industry as being a night not-to-miss; with high-profile presenters, guest speakers and spectacular entertainment, we’re working hard to push the boundaries even further as we celebrate a whole decade of the awards!  Even if you’re not in a position to enter the awards this year, we’d strongly recommend you put the date in your diary and come along to the evening.  Not only is it a great chance to let your hair down and enjoy the glitz and glam of such occasions, it’s also a chance to witness first-hand the incredible work our Members and their peers are doing across the Construction Health and Safety industry – it may even inspire you with ideas for projects in the future.

And as if the awards evening wasn’t enough cause for celebration, if you’re shortlisted, you’ll also be invited to an exclusive reception at the House of Commons to meet your local MP and other Members of Parliament.  These people have a special interest in Construction Health and Safety and lobby peers on the subject, so it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to meet and network with people in government and share your experience of working at the very highest level of professionalism in the Construction Health and Safety sector with those who influence policy.

If all this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in (and we hope you do!), you can enter the awards completely free-of-charge via our website, where you’ll also find more information about the awards scheme.  Remember, we’re here to help and support you where we can, so if you need any assistance in preparing your award submissions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.  You can contact Laura Hardie, Events Coordinator, via email: laura@aps.org.uk

We’re really looking forward to seeing examples of some of the excellent work you’ve been doing over the past twelve months and would like to wish you the very best of luck in the awards scheme. Here’s to another great National CDM and Student Designer Awards!
