The hopes & fears of all the years

Most of us will have empty chairs at the table this festive season. No father to raise a toast. No mother, warm with spices and harassed with preparations. There will crackers left unpulled with no lover’s, brother’s, sister’s hand to hold and share.

I have been busy putting up my decorations. There is nothing minimal or tasteful about them but, in my defence, they are largely homemade and it is very jolly Chez Moi.
